USOH Letters of Love Impact

USOH Staff that have served in Iraq and Afghanistan have never forgotten the thousands of war orphans we encountered. This is why USOH is dedicated to sending school supplies, Letters of Love and Pages of Hope (Books, CD’s and DVD’s) supplies to children through Civil Affair, Chaplain and FET teams. Thank you for supporting these projects at USOH.

USOH Looking for Membership Strength!

Greetings and Happy Spring from USOH! Many of our wonderful supporters have been instrumental in getting USOH off the ground in 2008-2010. As supporters and friends we thank you for the heart, love and HOPE you have given to Veterans, Military families and most importantly children affected by war. The heart of what we do at USOH is to provide hope and a future for these children and families!

Much has happened at USOH in a short time. We now have over 6,000 email subscribers and supporters at USOH and over 1,400 fans on Facebook in less than a year. We have daily correspondence coming in to USOH with numerous clients asking for help, prayer and most importantly, hope. We have members getting resource support they are needing.

Our goal at USOH is to take this support (and client needs) and grow it into membership, because we will be stronger as members helping members.

I am asking each of you today to join our team as a member and help us expand our reach in 2011. If you have any questions about membership or how we plan to use “membership muscle,” please email Sam, any of of our USOH Directors, or our membership coordinator Kelli Caballero, and we can share our vision in detail with you.

As an all-volunteer organization, we can only be successful if we are healthy and strong as a membership organization.

Said Gaforov

Online Communications Assistant

We’d like to give a warm welcome to Said Gaforov, the newest addition to our USOH Family! Said, a Tajikistan native, is currently studying Political Science at the University of Montana. Said has held a passion for community service with experience in volunteering for organizations such as the Missoula Food Bank and fundraising for Pakistani earthquake victims.

Said became a part of the USOH team because he believes USOH is, “a vibrant and diverse organization…people from different ethnicities, nationalities and cultures joining in one hope to promote and work for prosperity, peace, happiness and revitalize the life condition of individuals and families impacted by the war.” We are proud to have you on our team, Said!

Chris joined the team in October of 2010 and has been a valuable team member in the renovation of the USOH website as well as leading the way on communicating our mission.

A graduate of the University of Montana, Chris has given his time and talent to his community through NPO work, serving as Vice President of the UM Kappa Sigma fraternity and being a strong advocate and supporter of the brave men and women of the US Armed Forces. His desire to grow USOH with his wealth of knowledge and experience in communication and online marketing has strengthened our USOH team and we are excited to have him on board. Welcome, Chris!

Helpful Tips for Giving to the Japan Crisis

With the recent tragic events in Japan, the United States of Hope has received a huge influx from concerned US citizens looking to help. We want to be a part of the rebuilding process and supporting the friends and families of our foreign ally. We are working to assist in any ways USOH can, but to begin, we would like to give some tips for those looking to help financially with this disaster.

Unfortunately, a large number of websites that are not legitimate often crop up in the wake of natural disasters, soliciting for charitable donations to aid victims.

As we learned with Haiti, websites pop up within 48 hours of events that may be fraudulent.

Daniel Borochoff, president of the American Institute of Philanthropy, advises those ready to make donations to, “wait and see how the situation develops and step forward when clear charitable needs arise.”

“An immediate response is not necessarily best,” he says. “It’s alright to get assessments on the situation and then send contributions.”

Patrick Rooney, executive director of the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University, recommends giving to reputable aid organizations, like the Red Cross and Save the Children, because those organizations already have a presence in the impacted area and their response will likely be faster and more efficient than other organizations that are not on the ground.

“They have the experience and infrastructure necessary to provide help,” he says.

“Give money, not food, water and clothes,” Rooney advises. “There’s a much higher shipping cost for supplies and it’s easier for disaster organizations to get cash and use it as they need to.”

The Federal Bureau of Investigation advises donors not to respond to any unsolicited incoming emails, but rather go directly to recognized charities and aid organization’s websites, as opposed to following a link to another site.

Before donating, also verify the legitimacy of the nonprofit organizations as well as its nonprofit status.

This all we have at the moment. However, please always pray and support friends and family you may have in the area.

USOH Kids’ Culture & Language Program

Because of this, USOH will have the largest focus of our Youth Programs for 2011 on the education of cultures and languages of countries to which Military members are being deployed. By focusing on education these children on the environments in which their Military parents will be immersed, we hope to create a common ground and a firm foundation of understanding for both soldiers and their children during deployments and upon their return home.

Through club membership, children will be able to learn about various cultures and customs shared by their peers around the world through a fun and interactive learning club experience. Cultural nights, global food parties and pen pal events are just a few of the ways we will reach out to build bridges of communication and understanding for our future generations.

Operation 9-10-11 Military Tribute Banquet

After 10 years of non-stop combat, the communities of Missoula, Ravalli and Minteral Counties would like to honor Veterans who have served since the attacks on America on September 11, 2001.

As we remember this day, we desire to have an evening dedicated to saying Thank You to our very special Heroes and their families. this catered evening will be free to those in attendance and will serve to offer an unforgettable evening of honor, remembrance, and encouragement leading forward.

Limited seating is available and will be open to Military members and their families, so please register here no later than August 10th to ensure a seat. This event is not open to general public but if you would like to be involved, please contact us for more information.

With catering by Caffe Ferenze and entertainment provided by Shane Clouse and the Stomping Ground, this event will be a special tribute to service members of Missoula and surrounding counties. Let us give back to you for your selfless sacrifices to your country.
